Wisconsin Pro Hac Vice Admission, Co-Counsel, Local Counsel, and Referrals

Wisconsin pro hac vice admission for out-of-state attorneys recently changed.  Today, pro hac vice application is necessary for non-admitted lawyers choosing to appear in a Wisconsin lawsuit (see Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule 20:5.5).  Wisconsin’s FAQs for lawyers choosing to apply for pro hac vice admission are here.

Pro hac vice admission in Wisconsin permits attorneys to practice law on a temporary basis as co-counsel with a Wisconsin lawyer.  Essentially, attorneys not admitted to Wisconsin’s Bar must be admitted pro hac vice to practice law or they risk violating the unauthorized practice of law prohibition.  Typically, if a case is simply referred to Pasternak & Zirgibel S.C. by an out-of-state lawyer, pro hac vice admission is not done on referrals.  Our firm will act as local counsel in any Wisconsin personal injury case and its participation may be limited or extensive.  In most instances of pro hac vice admission, we minimally  draft, file and serve the complaint and summons and get out-of-state counsel admitted.  Beyond that, our involvement varies depending on the Court, County, nature of the case and co-counsel.

Brookfield, Wisconsin personal injury lawyers Frank Pasternak and Jeff Zirgibel are more than qualified to help with your Wisconsin personal injury case whether as co-counsel, local counsel or on a referral basis.  They have been honored in the Top 50 Wisconsin Super Lawyers, Best Law Firms by U.S. News & World Report, Leading Lawyers, Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America.  Zirgibel is dual-Board Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Civil Trial and Pre-Trial specialist and Pasternak has been honored by Milwaukee’s CNI Newspapers readers as “Best Attorney.” Pasternak and Zirgibel have worked with lawyers from over 20 states, including Chicago law firms Clifford Law Offices, Cooney & Conway, and Corboy & Demetrio.
